2010-03-24: Jace Hall to MC at LOGIN Session Preview
Enormously popular and irrefutably clever Jason “Jace” Hall will honor the 2010 LOGIN Conference by gracing attendees with his presence as the MC on the event’s opening night. With his quick wit, sharp tongue and undeniable expertise and track record in the gaming industry, Jace promises to provide an exciting start to the widely-regarded conference.
With years of gaming experience under his belt and an ever-growing resume, which recently entails being Executive Producer of the hit ABC TV drama “V” as well as singer/songwriter/producer, among other accomplishments, Jace’s trademark subtle humor balances with a serious knowledge of the gaming field.
“It is an honor to be asked to MC the opening night of LOGIN and given the opportunity to speak to a room full of my peers and fellow gamers,” said Jace Hall. “I hope to offer some useful insights to this conference and maybe even frag a few luminaries while I’m there.”
Jace will be Master of Ceremonies for the LOGIN Session Preview, which kicks off the event on Monday evening. Imagine a speaker being given just 30 seconds to tell you about their session and why you should attend. Now imagine speakers from each of nearly sixty sessions doing their pitches in rapid succession, and you've got the basic idea behind the LOGIN Session Preview. The preview is immediately followed by the acclaimed LOGIN Welcome Reception, where attendees can rub elbows with hundreds of fellow industry movers and shakers in a relaxing environment with the perfect mix of ambiance and refreshments.
2010-03-03: Byron Reeves and J. Leighton Read Announced as Second Keynote Address
The 2010 LOGIN Conference is adding further intellectual and business muscle to the session agenda with the keynote announcement of Byron Reeves and J. Leighton Read, authors of the book Total Engagement: Using Games and Virtual Worlds to Change the Way People Work and Businesses Compete. Dr. Reeves and Dr. Read will examine the lessons a wide array of businesses can learn from game developers, games and gamers in their day-to-day processes. This presentation will be shared with LOGIN attendees during lunch on Wednesday, May 12th.
In “Total Engagement: Using Games to Change How People Work”, Drs. Reeves and Read delve into the questions of serious fun. Imagine the value if you could transfer the excitement and focus found in great games to the office. What if information workers could solve customer problems, design new software, or configure better shipping routes working inside a game environment at work? This isn't just possible, it's inevitable. As employee productivity and engagement become more critical, the user experience provided by game technology offers a tantalizing solution for business. This is far more than a quaint metaphor or a twist on e-learning. Game design elements can address a host of business problems with morale, communication, and alignment while honing skills like data analysis, teamwork, leadership, and more.
Professor Byron Reeves and Dr. Leighton Read provide a grounded and insightful argument on that very idea: that online games can inform the structure of work; not simply by transferring the workplace to virtual spaces, but by examining fundamental design principles such as narrative, transparency, ranks, and economies and overlaying these on the work environment.
